Canisp from the Road to Suileag Bothy Watercolour 25.5 x 35.5 cm This was painted after a recent trip to Lochinver. The village is the largest settlement in Assynt, in Sutherland. There is some wonderful wild country around there with some good walking routes. Suilven is the mountain which dominates the area with its dramatic shape, but it's not really all that high, at 731 metres, Canisp is more than a hundred metres higher. One of the routes into the hills goes past Suileag Bothy, one of many shelters in the Highlands which are maintained by land-owners or the Mountain Bothies Association.  Suilven Suilven Suilven Canisp Canisp and Suilven Suileag Bothy

Snow on Ben Loyal

Snow on Ben Loyal Watercolour 25.5 x 35.5 cm Ben Loyal must have looked spectacular in the recent snow. I would have liked to have got over there, but the narrow twisting roads were too icy to attempt the journey. By the time the roads were clear most of the snow had gone, but the mountain still looked imposing, looming over the grey waters of the Kyle of Tongue.
