The old Man of Hoy

The Old Man of Hoy - watercolour, 16 x 26 cm

This iconic rock stack stands below the towering cliffs on the west side of the island of Hoy, where it is exposed to the full force of winter storms from the Atlantic. The basalt rocks at its base give it some protection, but I wonder how long it will be before sea-level rise, and the effects of the weather topple this venerable old man!

That was a long wait, ....

But WHAT a painting, WHAT a view and WHAT and atmosphere.

Well worth the wait!!

Love your painting, Keith. It would be very sad if the old man were to become a victim of climate change. Hopefully he is stronger than we think. This is a painting to look at for hours and simply absorb. Thank you.

Thanks René. I'm glad you like the painting, and sorry you had to wait so long!

Thanks Diane. It will be sad, but he owes his existence to the effects of erosion.
I wouldn't hold your breath guys, ...

That whole Climate Change is there as long as the earth is around.
The problem is more all those so called scientist fiddling around with computer models, like Mann, Furgeson and other maniacs, let's try to see things in perspective.

Here in The Netherlands we keep track on our coastline for centuries (1600 or so) ... and it doesn't increase much, only 1 mm. a century so far.

So Again I wouldn't hold my breath.

That's very interesting, thanks René. Around here there's lots of evidence of change to the coastline, but it's often difficult to imagine how it looked before, so it's good to hear about old images and writing.

Same here, but then again in a Climate Change perspective, we're so briefly here, ... just a blib, ... but we've have such an huge self-importance feel for our thoughts that's almost narcistic.
