The old Man of Hoy

The Old Man of Hoy - watercolour, 16 x 26 cm

This iconic rock stack stands below the towering cliffs on the west side of the island of Hoy, where it is exposed to the full force of winter storms from the Atlantic. The basalt rocks at its base give it some protection, but I wonder how long it will be before sea-level rise, and the effects of the weather topple this venerable old man!

  1. That was a long wait, ....

But WHAT a painting, WHAT a view and WHAT and atmosphere.

    Well worth the wait!!

  2. Love your painting, Keith. It would be very sad if the old man were to become a victim of climate change. Hopefully he is stronger than we think. This is a painting to look at for hours and simply absorb. Thank you.
