The Far North Line

A Line-man's Hut, Kinbrace - watercolour - 16 x 26 cm

An old line-man's hut, beside the track of the beautiful Far North Line, in the north of Scotland. The scenic route runs from Inverness to Thurso and Wick, in Caithness, and the journey takes three and a half hours. Some of the wonderful scenery along the way includes: The Kyle of Sutherland, the coastline at Brora, the Flow Country around Forsinard.

  1. Hi Keith!... This piece surely does encapsulate the remoteness of the North and the importance of the railway in connecting people to places of settlement. We take that for granted somewhat in all countries. We share a similar gift of such a railway legacy in joining our vast reaches of Canada - east to west and north to south! Great light and color!

    Warmest regards,
    Bruce

    1. Hi Bruce,

Yes we do take the railway for granted, now that most people have access to cars. And with declining use comes declining services. Nevertheless, we would still miss it if it were gone, I think.

      All the best,
      Keith
