Scrabster Ice Quay
"The Ice Quay at Scrabster" - watercolour - 13 x 18 cm
A while ago I posted a painting of a 19th Century ice-house. This is a small watercolour of the modern equivalent, at Scrabster. A refrigeration plant produces ice in industrial qualities, which is piped into fishing boats moored at the quay alongside.
Update 18/01/2023: Sadly this no longer exists after alterations to the harbour a few years ago, so this painting is now part of the historical record!

Hi Bruce, as you know, it's not so much the subject but the light and form that makes it interesting. I always try to remember what Camille Pissarro said: "Blessed are they who see beautiful things in humble places where other people see nothing."

It has a cold, isolated feeling about it - a feeling which you have captured beautifully. Two very different ice-houses, each saying something about the time in which it was built.
