Forsinard Flows

Forsinard Flows
Watercolour
18 x 26 cm

One of the best places to find out about the Flow Country is the RSPB's 'Forsinard Flows' nature reserve. This extensive area of peat bog is the nearest we get to true wilderness here in Britain. Large parts of it have been planted with commercial forestry in the past, but the RSPB are working to clear the trees and return the bog to something like its natural state.

What a bonny painting with lovely colours and a soft misty distance. Keith, thanks for the link about Forsinard Flows it looks a lovely place. There were some nice photos on the site of the location too.

Hi there Keith!... What a beautiful example of deep space... it seems miles to the distant rear of your vista!

Outstandingly... yet deceptively simple! So much... with so little!

That lone bird in the foreground really adds to the vast loneliness and complete sense of wildness! Wonderful!

Good painting!
Warmest regards,
Bruce

Thank you Keith on two counts: first, the beautiful painting to linger over and the link to the flows. I have it on my list of places to visit.

Hello Caroline, I've found a recent BBC piece about the Flow Country. I've added a link to it now.

Hi Bruce,

I find I get the most satisfaction from these really simple pieces.

All the best,
Keith

Hello Sue, I hope you can visit before your list gets too long! :-)

I love how you simplify your subject and the beautiful colors of the place.

Unfortunately I could not see the video link, "not available on your area" ... I do not know if it like this for everybody in France. It will take one day I make a trip to this beautiful country portrayed in your watercolor

Thanks for telling me about that Lydie, I'd forgotten that BBC videos are not available in some countries. I've found the RSPB video that I really wanted to show, so I've changed it now. Hopefully you'll be able to see that.
The film is wonderful, I don't have a television so it was great to see this. I am going to look into what train leaves Inverness for this location as I think that train trip would really be spectacular.

You're a true master at these uncomplicated and fresh watercolour landscapes, Keith. I love this!

It's the train to Thurso, Caroline. The first bit around the Cromarty Firth is a bit of a drag, but once it gets into Sutherland it is a beautiful journey. It runs very close to the coast and then loops inland a couple of times through wild scenery.

It's ok now with the video link, thanks a lot. My eyes are still full of all these beautiful landscapes.

I'm glad you've been able to see this now Lydie.
Hi Keith.
You certainly know how to paint in watercolours, I love this one and your last two paintings, all are wonderful paintings. Sorry I missed then. All the best keith.

Yes, John, I think it must be one of the best train journeys in Britain.

Thanks Rob, it shows that 'less' really is 'more'.
