Sunburst

Sunburst at Achaguie Watercolour, 10 x 14 inches (25.5 x 35.5 cm)
The snow has all gone now, so this might be my last white painting for a while. I don't know whether we'll have any more wintry weather. There was snow in February last year, so it's quite possible.

A Lane in Winter

The recent snow was fun to start with. Everywhere was quiet because there were few vehicles on the roads, and the snow was soft to walk on.

It's nice to be out in the snow, but on a cold dark day a welcoming light and a warm fire are good as well.

Icy Roads

Caithness seems to have missed the worst of the recent winter weather. Other parts of the Highlands have had a metre or more of snow and temperatures of -20 Centigrade. There has been plenty of snow here too, but the main problem has been with ice. We had a period of settled weather with sub-zero temperatures which froze the snow which had already fallen. The roads were in a dangerous condition and have only just become clear again.

This road was especially bad and has steep verges on each side. Several vehicles skidded off it and got stuck on one day.
